[NOT] BEING HERE is a theoretical and practical investigation into presence and absence, which crystallizes in a stage film that jumps between time, screens, languages, and subjects.
The piece is a small tribute to the individuality of the mother figure and a futile struggle against entropy, a desperate attempt at resistance in the face of the inevitable.
I began this process by trying to study and frame presence in theater, something that soon led me to reflect on the relationships between matter, perception, and consciousness. But a sudden death completely transformed the process, which became a way of dealing with some of the most personal and profound experiences I had had to date.
This stage film is a love letter to my mother, who is at once familiar and infinitely other.
